Drama

The pupils of Netherwood have the opportunity of taking extra lessons in Drama and being entered for LAMDA examinations at all levels of Acting and Speaking of Verse and Prose. It is possible to reach Bronze, Silver or Gold Medal Standard before leaving school. To date, the majority of students have gained either 'honours' or 'distinction' in their examinations - we have not recorded one failure!

Every child at Netherwood has the chance to appear in a stage production at least once a year. With our age range this could vary from the Christmas Nativity Play to 'Cider with Rosie', or even the 'Dracula Spectactula'. Pupils will also have the chance to become backstage technicians, if they are so inclined.

Music

We are very much aware that we are in the midst of the 'Land of Song' at Netherwood. Our Choral and Individual Singing tradition has been long established, with the high points on the annual calendar being the School Concerts, Musicals and Prize Day performances.

The School has the services of several peripatetic Instrumental Teachers. This allows our pupils to reach high standards in their examinations, which are set by the Royal College of London and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. It has also enabled us to set up an impressive Band of Musicians who play, to the delight of our parents, at many annual functions. Some of our better musicians compete in the various Urdd and Rotary Competitions. Instrumentalists also have the chance to compete in the School Eisteddfod, which is held each year.

Music has recently become another successful examination subject at G.C.S.E. level.

Public Speaking

Senior pupils are always keen to sharpen their competitive edge and develop their powers of argument via this activity. Many competitions take place internally and the winners compete in the Rotary Youth Speaks competition each year. In this respect, Netherwood pupils are often viewed as giant-killers, beating teams from schools that are several times the size of ours, as we move up the competition ladder.
